CHARISM

The charism of the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary finds its roots in St. Matthew’s Gospel when Our Lord tells us to learn of him for he is “gentle and humble of heart.” The gift of our Holy Founders, St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal, is this posture of humility and gentleness with which we try to approach all that we do.

"May it please the infinite goodness of God that His love may be our only love."

— St. Francis de Sales

The Visitation Monasteries of the Second Federation in the United States combine a traditional monastic life, with choral office and common meals and recreation, etc., with an active apostolate, where we share with others the fruits of our common life of prayer and fraternal communion. Every monastery shares the charism of gentleness and humility but each one embodies it in a way which is unique. We invite you to use the contact information provided to visit the websites of each monastery to learn more about us.
